Aqua Elite
LEVEL 2 CHEERLEADING
Level 2 cheer is the intermediate level at which most cheerleaders compete in their early careers. A step up from beginner, it gives athletes the chance to develop their skills and climb the ranks. Aqua Elite is rapidly expanding and looking to assemble a level 2 cheer team in 2026! We see amazing potential every day and want to give our young cheerleaders the chance to see what’s really possible.
What Is ‘Level 2’ Cheer?
In the UK, governing bodies such as UKCA (and event producers under SportCheer England/ICU-aligned rules) use a “level” system to indicate the difficulty and permitted skills in competitive cheer.
Level 2 is a step up from beginner/introductory, meaning routines tend to include more advanced stunts, tumbling, and transitions, with fewer restrictions than Level 1.
Level 2 is ideal for those who have mastered the fundamentals of cheerleading and are ready to take the next step in their development. While many Level 2 cheerleaders have around one to three years of experience, we look closely at other things like confidence, commitment, and skill rather than age alone.
Our coaches assess each athlete individually to ensure they’re placed in the team best suited to their current ability. Entering our annual tryouts is the best way to find out where you’re at!
What Are The Demands of Level 2 Cheer Teams?
When jumping from beginner to intermediate, our horizons can broaden to a range of new skills, including:
- Extended stunts and pyramids
- Twisting stunts or mounts
- Tumbling passes (such as round-offs into back handsprings or standing/running back handsprings)
- Basket tosses
- Combined choreography
One of the biggest goals in Level 2 is performing stunts at prep level. A ‘prep’ means the flyer’s feet are held around shoulder height by the bases. This is higher than Level 1 but lower than a full extension.
Aqua Elite Coaches
Our coaches are fully qualified to teach level 2, many of them having performed at that level or above for many years. Among our coaching team we have World silver medallists and competition champions, all passionate about cheer and passing on their wisdom to the next generation of talent!
Every session is carefully planned to ensure our athletes progress at an appropriate pace, with a strong emphasis on correct technique, spotting, and injury prevention.
What To Expect If You Join A Level 2 Cheer Team
With higher difficulty comes a higher level of commitment that we will expect from our athletes. To compete successfully at Level 2 requires consistent training and rehearsal, more details of which will become available in 2026. Most likely, we will train multiple times a week and compete in a wider range of national competitions.
A valuable Level 2 cheerleader will have:
- Strength
- Coordination
- Teamwork
- Confidence
- Solid acrobatic/tumbling skills
Level 2 cheer is a stepping stone to advanced difficulty cheer/professional cheer. Our hope is that with a level 2 team of our own, we can help our students reach their full potential and achieve their dreams!
